‘I had to say this to him’
Eden Hazard has dismissed suggestions that he had a poor relationship with Jose Mourinho.
After Chelsea’s disastrous season last campaign, questions were asked about how well the two got on. Hazard’s form was incredibly poor in comparison to the 2014/15 title winning season.
His form reflected the form of the team’s on the whole, and Mourinho was sacked by Christmas, just 7 months after winning the title in the previous May.
However, Hazard has insisted that there was no rift between himself and Mourinho, and that he even texted his former boss to wish him luck when starting his new job at Manchester United,
Hazard told the BBC: “Last season, my relationship with Jose Mourinho was always the same.
“In his career, he won all the time but we were together when at the top and suffered together too.
“I sent him a message to say good luck and hope he wins some games.
“Not too many though, because we want to be champions.
“I am still young, only 25 but I want to be the best.
“It is not in my head, I want to enjoy and play.
“I don’t want to be like Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, I want to be me.”
Hazard’s form has improved dramatically this season, and he has helped Chelsea rise to the top of the Premier League after 12 games under new manager Antonio Conte. They have won 6 games on the bounce and kept 6 clean sheets after beating Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
