According to Michael Essien’s agent, the Ghana international may leave Chelsea during the January transfer window.
Essien has had just 2 Premier League starts this season for the Blues after returning from a loan move with Real Madrid.
The Chelsea midfielder has enjoyed much success since joining from Lyon in 2005, winning 2 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups and the Champions League, but the 31 year-old was left out of Chelsea’s Champions League squad this season.
Essien’s agent Fabian Piveteau, believes his track record could help make way for a move to another big European club. He told French radio station RMC: “He could leave Chelsea this winter,”
“Several major European clubs playing in the Champions League were informed and the situation should settle down within the next 10 days.”
Piveteau rejected a move back to Ligue 1 side Bastia, where Essien started his career, stating Essien will only move to a club of similar standing.
He said: “In Ligue 1 he could play only at Paris St-Germain or Lyon, but Bastia, FC Sochaux, for them to support the salary of a Chelsea player, it is already impossible.”
