Arsenal youngster Isaac Hayden admitted rejecting Manchester United before signing for Gunners

Young English defender Isaac Hayden revealed he turned down the opportunity to play for Manchester United when he was 14 years old.

Hayden, 20, is currently on loan at Hull City and is a hot prospect having played for England from U16 level to the U20 side at present.

Though seven years ago the 20-year-old rejected interest from United to stay at Arsenal – a decision which he claimed was a “no brainer”.

Arsenal was the only choice

“As soon as I got the choice between Manchester United and Arsenal, it was an easy decision.

“Manchester United were keen but when you’re 13 and living in London with your parents, it was a no-brainer.

“I was 14 when I joined Arsenal. I’d played against Arsenal in a friendly for Southend and they said they’d take me.

“Arsenal were my team growing up because my idol was Patrick Vieira. I always watched his game and studied what he did.”

Hayden has made an appearance in every game this league campaign and has really impressed Steve Bruce since arriving on loan.

The former Manchester United captain believes if he continues to progress in this manner then he could challenge for a first-team place at the Emirates next season.
