Arsenal are ‘almost certain’ to sign Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuaín, claims a Naples radio station.

The deal will reportedly see Olivier Giroud leave the Emirates Stadium, in a player plus cash deal.

Radio Kiss Kiss, who broadcast throughout Italy, have claimed that Higuain is set to join Arsene Wenger’s side.

Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Argentine striker Higuaín, 28, but they are not the only club interested in him.

Napoli’s Serie A rivals Juventus are also monitoring his situation, but the Naples side are not keen to sell to a domestic rival.

Francesco Marciano, a presenter on Kiss Kiss, said: “At the moment the rumour to Juve is true, but I am certain that in the end Pipita will leave Napoli to go abroad.

“He will almost certainly join Arsenal. For now the Gunners are offering £41.8m plus Giroud.

“Arsenal are trying to free up funds by selling players so they can increase the economic part of the offer.”

Higuaín has a release clause of £78m in his contract. He found the net 36 times in Serie A last season for the Ciucciarelli, equaling Gino Rossetti’s record set in the 1928-29 season.

Giroud has just returned from a partly successful Euro 2016, scoring 3 goals and chipping in with two assists as France reached the Final, losing in extra-time to Portugal.
