Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has not given up hopes of a reunion with Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

Togo forward Adebayor shined under Sherwood at the Midlands club, and talks were underway between the two clubs regarding a loan move.

But these talks have broken down, despite Adebayor being spotted at Villa’s training ground.

Sherwood is still hopeful a deal can be resurrected, saying: “He was here and we spoke but he’s a Tottenham player.

“He’s still a Tottenham player so something went wrong. If it can be revived and we think it’s necessary, the two parties have to agree on it.”

Adebayor, Togo’s all-time leading scorer with 28 goals led the line for Tottenham under Sherwood in the 203-14 season, with 14 goals in 25 league appearances.

That kind of scoring form, plus the fact that Sherwood probably brought out the best in the forward more than any Spurs manager in the time Adebayor was there.

Sherwood is hopeful a deal can be done and if it can, to recapture the form that helped Adebayor turn out for some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Arsenal, Real Madrid and Manchester City.
