Hughton praises Pascal Gross, backs Glenn Murray to end his goal drought

Brighton and Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton has showered praise on midfielder Pascal Gross for his fine performance in the club’s 2-1 defeat to Man United, confirming that the German has adapted well to playing in a deeper role than usual.
Gross pulled one back for the Seagulls in the second half at Old Trafford to reduce the deficit with the deft finish and the manager praised him for his intelligence on and off the ball.
He said, “I’m pleased for Pascal. He is playing in a little bit of a different position than he did last year, because of the way that we are playing.
“That probably doesn’t give him the opportunities of getting in those areas, but he did exactly what we want him to do, which is to make runs from perhaps that little bit deeper.
“He also showed some good timing with those runs from the edge of the box. I think that will do him the world of good.”
Hughton also spoke about frontman Glenn Murray’s eight-game goal drought in the Premier League, saying that the 35-year-old is experienced enough to cope with lean spells.
“Glenn’s an experienced player and he would have had lots of periods in his career when he is playing regularly, not playing so regularly, scoring goals and not scoring goals.

“He is always a player that will put himself up and put himself in those positions to try to get the end product that he wants.”

“I will make changes. I’ve got a very competitive squad. For the Bournemouth game I made eight changes, so certainly I will do that again.”
