Ahead of today’s Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has admitted that he didn’t know who Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne was before this season.

Belgian De Bruyne played for Chelsea between 2012 and 2014, but only made three league appearances for the club, spending most of his time there on loan in Germany with Werder Bremen, before joining Wolfsburg on a permanent deal.

He set a Bundesliga record in the 2014-15 season, with 21 assists, and has been impressive for City this season.

But Spanish midfielder Fabregas, who arrived at Stamford Bridge a few months after De Bruyne’s departure, has not been keeping tabs on the forward.

When asked if he had been impressed with De Bruyne’s form this season, Fabregas repled: “Yes, mostly because I hardly knew about him before this season.

“I didn’t really watch the German league in the few years he was there so yes he’s impressed me because I didn’t know that he had that much quality.

“I think he fits in very well with Manchester City’s footballing style.”
