Bernd Schuster says it would wrong for Morata to join Atletico Madrid

Bernd Schuster, a player who spent his time playing football on both sides of Madrid and also at Barcelona, claims that it would be wrong for Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata join Atletico Madrid.

The Spaniard, who hasn’t fired for the Blues since joining in 2017, is expected to leave the Premier League side by the end of this transfer window.

With Chelsea signing Gonzalo Higuain on loan from Juventus for the rest of this season, Morata’s chances of leaving the club gets better.

Manager Maurizio Sarri confirmed this week that the striker informed last month that he wanted to leave, just 18 months after arriving.

Atletico Madrid are the favourites to sign him, but their former midfielder Schuster thinks such a move would be unwise. The former Madrid player thinks the striker should have stayed at the Santiago Bernabeu at first place.

He was speaking Spanish outlet Onda Cero: “I’m surprised by Morata’s arrival at Atleti. I don’t know if they’re the team for him. I think Morata was wrong to leave Madrid. He didn’t have patience.”

The Spaniard has just scored five goals in 16 Premier League appearances this season and missed a host of chances in the process. He is clearly a player who hasn’t settled to life in England. It is easy to think why he wants to return to his native city and re-enhance his reputation up front.
