The defender is set for a year’s extension on his Chelsea contract

Branislav Ivanovic is confident on signing a one-year extension to remain at Stamford Bridge.

The Serbian’s contract is due to expire in the summer but after positive talks with the club, it looks as though he will be remaining in London next season.

Chelsea’s policy is that they only allow players over 30 to sign a year at a time, so Ivanovic may weigh up his options again depending how much he plays next campaign.

The 31-year-old signed from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2008 and has won eight major honours, including a Champions League and two Premier League titles, as he approaches his eighth year at the club.

Chelsea are unbeaten since Gus Hiddink took charge in December and the manager still has hope of claiming a Champions League spot.

“As long as it’s possible mathematically to get fourth position we will go for it,” he said.

“We have to win all our games, at least all our home games.”
