LVG: ‘Manchester United Will Always Be Bigger Than Tottenham’

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has claimed that his club are still bigger than Tottenham Hotspur – despite falling to defeat against the North London club in today’s Premier League encounter.

Goals from Dele Alli, Toby Alderweireld and Erik Lamela dealt United’s top four hopes another significant blow, while keeping Spurs in the title race, seven points behind Leicester City.

But despite the damaging defeat, Dutch manager LVG is adamant that his side are bigger than Tottenham, whilst also apologising to Spurs fans.

Van Gaal was Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy’s first choice to take the managerial reigns at White Hart Lane, in the summer of 2014.

Spurs eventually went for Mauricio Pochettino instead, and he has led the club to an almost-certain top two finish, with a shot at the title still possible.

Van Gaal said: “In the balance, we are still ahead. The challenge is always bigger in a bigger club.

“I like also to sign for Tottenham Hotspur. Daniel Levy knows that. But the challenge was bigger at Manchester United and shall always be bigger.

“I am sorry for Tottenham but Manchester United will always be the bigger club.

“I think it is a little bit pathetic that you ask that because they have won 3-0. It is easy to ask that but it is okay, you enjoy yourself.”

United are four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City with six games remaining.
