“Welcome home”

A simple two-worded tweet by former Manchester United defender Phil Neville has led many Manchester United fans to believe that a reunion between the Red Devils and Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is a big step closer.

The tweet is accompanied by a link to a story by Sky Sports claiming that Ronaldo is interested in a move back to Old Trafford.

Rumours have been rife recently regarding the future of the man known as CR7, currently on international duty with Portugal in the Confederations Cup.

Some outlets claim that Ronaldo has ordered his agent, Jorge Mendes, to instigate a move back to England.

Mendes is also the agent of United manager Jose Mourinho, so that could make any negotiations a little bit easier.

United will almost certainly have to fork out a colossal sum, although they could balance the books a little with the potential departures of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney.

Paris St Germain are also keen on Ronaldo, but he is thought to prefer a return to United, as he feels he has ‘unfinished business’ with the club.

He is also the subject of tax fraud charges, which he denies. Ronaldo may feel that Real are not supporting him enough while this is going on.

Real manager Zinedine Zidane, along with captain Sergio Ramos, have spoken to Ronaldo personally to urge him to stay in Spain.

Zidane said: ‘We are a team that wins because of you.’ while Ramos praised his willingness to play every minute of every game in his desire to win.

This may not be enough. And Neville, who played with Ronaldo at United between 2003 and 2005, has certainly got United fans excited.
