Oblak is widely regarded as one of the best shot-stoppers in the world in modern-day football.

Manchester United are reportedly planning on David de Gea‘s potential departure and have targeted Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak as his replacement.

The sensational Spaniard David de Gea has entered his final contract with Manchester United and with no end in sight in terms of a renewal, Juventus have stepped the race to secure his signature on a free transfer next season.

Since the Italian giants are keen on adding de Gea to their already improved ranks, United have identified Jan Oblak as his potential replacement. Oblak was reportedly open to the prospect of leaving Diego Simeone’s side earlier this year, only to recently pen a new contract keeping him at the club until 2023.

According to Diario AS, United view the Slovenia international as their ideal replacement for de Gea should the latter run his contract down until he becomes a free agent next summer. Oblak, whose contract still contains a €120 million release clause, has developed into one of the world’s elite goalkeepers in Madrid since his €16 million transfer from Benfica in 2014, while Paris Saint-Germain are also in the running.

Oblak has been a regular in Diego Simeone’s starting line-up across the past four seasons and his renewal had long been seen as a priority.
