Jose Mourinho tomorrow takes charge of Manchester United in a Premier League game for the first time, as the Red Devils begin their campaign on the South Coast against AFC Bournemouth.

United will be looking to avenge last season’s 2-1 defeat to the Cherries, goals from Junior Stanislaus and Joshua King handing Bournemouth a famous victory. United’s goal came from Marouane Fellaini.

United were able to win the reverse fixture 3-1 at the end of last season, after the original meeting was abandoned.

Bournemouth managed to finish in 16th place in their first season in the Premier League last term, and managed to win eleven games despite injuries to their squad. Manager Eddie Howe was linked with the England manager’s job over the summer, before the FA went for Sam Allardyce.

Team News

Mourinho has been quick to stamp his identity on the team, signing Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba. Three of the quartet are expected to feature at some point tomorrow, however Pogba, settling in after a world-record transfer fee from Juventus, is unavailable due to suspension. Chris Smalling is also suspended.

For Bournemouth, Stanislaus is injured and will miss the game. Tyrone Mings is also injured, Howe is hopeful he could return next month. King should play against his former club, having signed a new deal earlier this week.
