The famous Diego Simeone’s son has switched clubs.
Fiorentina striker Giovanni Simeone has reportedly chosen to join Cagliari over Sampdoria.
Simeone had appeared to be headed for Sampdoria after they agreed a €15 million deal for the Argentine. However, according to Sky Italia, fellow Serie A side Cagliari came in with a better offer.
They reported that the Sardinians’ bid of €16 million, €1 million more than the Blucerchiati, has been accepted. The Rossoblu have turned to the 24-year-old as first-choice hitman Leonardo Spinazzola has been struck by injury.
That gave the Argentine a choice to make, and TMW claims he has opted for a switch to Sardinia.
The 24-year-old Simeone has arrived in Sardinia on Friday to undergo medical checks and later, complete his move in the coming hours.
“My heart chose Cagliari,” the 24-year-old told reporters after landing. “It was important to see how much the club, President and players wanted me to come.
“I heard from Lucas Castro, who convinced me to come here. I will sign my contract after medical examinations. I’m ready to play. Cagliari can also be an opportunity for me to return to the national team.”
Simeone has one goal in six caps for Argentina but has not played for his country since last November.
