Unai Simon’s season at Athletic Bilbao has put him on the agenda of many big clubs.
One of those who could try and sign him are Real Madrid.
​Real Madrid have earmarked Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon as a potential replacement for under-fire Thibaut Courtois, who has come under severe criticism throughout his time in the Spanish capital.
Bilbao meanwhile, have got the best defence in the whole of La Liga together with Atletico Madrid. The Basques have largely got Unai Simon in the goal to thank for this. As a result, Real Madrid have got their eyes on the Athletic keeper, according to El Desmarque. His good performances and the fact Real’s goalkeeping department is not the best has led to their interest.
Real Madrid will find it difficult to get one of the best upcoming keepers in the country. The thing is Unai Simon renewed at Athletic Bilbao even before he became the number one at the club. His buyout clause was also increased to €50 million.
Courtois joined Los Blancos in the summer of 2018 after finally sealing a move away from Chelsea in order to be closer to his children, who live in Madrid, but has struggled to make a significant impact since moving. With Areola not at Real Madrid next season and the Belgian international criticized for his performances, the team from the capital are looking for a keeper with safe hands to end the debate over who should be the Real shot stopper.
