Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari has insisted he loves his Spanish star player Isco.
The duo has clashed horns numerous times since Solari’s appointment as Real Madrid head coach midway through the season. Isco was first choice for predecessors Zinedine Zidane and Julen Lopetegui. The Spanish playmaker is considered one of the finest creative midfielders in the modern game and is versatile enough to play in multipl positions.
However, Solari and Isco reportedly first clashed over Isco’s fitness issue which was not taken well by the midfielder. It later went on to become even more complicated as Solari’s 4-3-3 system means that Isco is unable to fit into his natural position behind the striker and hence has been unable to deliver his best performances.
“I love Isco,” Solari told a news conference ahead of Madrid’s Club World Cup semi-final against Kashima Antlers. “But my job is to make sure that everyone is at their best. Those that are not, do not get in.”
“It is a thankless and difficult task to choose who has to play and who is left out. I see [Isco] and all the others, working with enthusiasm.”
