Remember the Alexis Sanchez intro that was probably more expensive to shoot than the entire summer budget of Ipswich Town?
It was the winter market of 2018 and after a fierce bidding war against Manchester City, Jose Mourinho, the then Manchester United manager had managed to convince his employers to sign Alexis Sanchez.
The Chilean winger was lighting up the Premier League back then in North London and Arsenal who had failed to persuade him to sign an extension managed to sell their star player to Manchester United in exchange for the services of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Sanchez had agreed to a deal close to £500,000 per week before taxes. Since then he has contributed 14 goals in 45 matches and earned close to £40 million at Old Trafford.
The nightmare for the player ended last summer when Sanchez finally found shelter out on loan at Inter Milan. However, United was unable to cut losses as they had to keep paying the majority of his wages while Sanchez assisted and scored 14 goals in 30 matches for Antonio Conte’s men this season.
So it is with great joy that both clubs have officially announced the permanent transfer of Alexis Sanchez from Inter Milan to Manchester United. The Red Devils have agreed to a free transfer for the winger who will be staying at Italy’s fashion capital till 2023.
Although there has been no official confirmation, it is being reported that the player will not have to take a pay cut and will be earning an amount similar to what he was making at Old Trafford.
As for United, they have officially saved themselves over £25 million in salaries which they would have had to pay the player otherwise and can use the financial boost to launch a bid for their primary summer target – Jadon Sancho!
