According to the latest reports, James Rodriguez is set for a move to Atletico Madrid on a bargain deal.
Zinedine Zidane clearly does not want him at the Bernabeu and is willing to see the back of him this summer. Rodriguez’s contract is due to run for another season after signing for £63m in 2014.
Real should be in a hurry to sell Rodriguez to raise funds but they have had plenty of failed attempts before. That simply makes it unnecessary to rush things as he is likely to leave this very summer itself. Atletico president, Enrique Cerezo played down talks of a transfer.
He told Radio Marca: “We have an excellent and young squad. However, if the coach considers it necessary, we will do everything in our reach to bring a player in. I have no idea whether he will end up coming.”
He then added, “I don’t think he is in Atletico Madrid’s plans.”
That is interesting to note since Atletico were in James just last summer. Now, they are about to strike a deal for a bargain sum, considering how much the Colombian still has to offer. With Joao Felix already in the side and Diego Llorente playing in the second striker role from time to time, Rodriguez will offer a more creative outlet.
