Arsene Wenger says Arsenal will be active in the January transfer window

Following the news that Francis Coquelin will be out for around two months, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that the Gunners will need to be active in the January transfer market.

French midfielder Coquelin suffered a knee injury in the 2-1 defeat to West Brom on Saturday, adding to an already heaving injury list at the Emirates Stadium.

Aaron Ramsey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mikel Arteta, Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck, Tomas Rosicky and Jack Wilshere are all currently missing, although Ramsey was able to resume training today.

It may be too soon for Ramsey to return against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League this week, and after learning of Coquelin’s injury, Wenger admits the club will have to dip in to the transfer market for reinforcements.

Wenger said:  “I’ll do what’s needed in January even though in January it is not an ideal transfer market.

“We have players that can play in [Coquelin’s] position. Calum Chambers has been educated in that position”.
