Manchester United identify shortlist for Director of Football

Premier League giants Manchester United have identified three candidates, one of whom could become the club’s new director of football.

The Red Devils are keen to restructure themselves behind the scenes in terms of scouting, recruitment and other footballing strategies. It is clear that they have been behind some of the big European clubs in this aspect in the past few years.

Football has improved on the pitch ever since Jose Mourinho was sacked and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was handed the caretaker responsibilities. But Ed Woodward is still looking to bring someone in who can look after the operations in a better way.

Suggestions is that there are three candidates, from whom the selection would be done for this role.

On top of the list is Atletico Madrid’s Andrea Berta, however, United face competition to lure the Italian away from Madrid, with the Spanish club set to offer him a new long-term contract to make him stay as their director of football only.

If the Red Devils’ approach for Berta fails, they have RB Leipzig’s Paul Mitchell and Juventus’ Fabio Paratici as other options who could potentially fill the DoF position at Old Trafford.

United are hoping to make the appointment by the end of this season so that they can smoothen their operations come the summer transfer window and beyond.
