Manchester United want Real Madrid star James Rodriguez

Manchester United are reportedly strongly keen on bringing Real Madrid star James Rodriguez to Old Trafford for next season.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the treatment table, and continuing doubts over the United future of Wayne Rooney, Jose Mourinho is seeking reinforcements for next season.

Colombian radio station Radio Cadena Nacional claim United are wanting Rodriguez, going so far as to offer him the number ten shirt. This is in no small part to the clause he has in his contract with Adidas, which states that he has to wear that number. Rooney currently wears ten at United.

Another key part of any deal could be agent Jorge Mendes, who represents both Rodriguez and Mourinho. Mendes has met with Real president Florentino Perez to discuss the future of the forward.

Real are understood to be keen to sell the player, who is unlikely to start the Champions League final against Juventus in Cardiff on 3 June.

Reuters have reported that an agreement is in place between the Colombian and United for the summer. United have lodged a bid of ÂŁ68m.
