Tottenham Hotspur learn the price they must pay to sign Middlesbrough star Djed Spence

Tottenham Hotspur have been given the price they must pay to acquire Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence in the summer, according to sources.

Earlier in the season, Djed Spence was loaned out to fellow Championship club Nottingham Forest for the remainder of the season, and the right-back has been quite good for the team.

His achievements in the English football pyramid’s second tier have piqued the interest of Tottenham Hotspur, who are hoping to add more talent to their squad at the conclusion of the season after yet another trophyless season in the Premier League.

Spurs will have to compete with arch-rivals Arsenal to acquire Spence ahead of the next season, with the Gunners also aiming to bolster their team and challenge the Premier League elite in 2022/23.

With a slot at right-back available, the club has eyed Spence as a viable replacement for the existing roster of defenders they have, but in order to sign him in the summer, Middlesbrough will have to pay a club-record £20 million for the 21-year-old.

Tottenham are dissatisfied with Royal’s performances this season, despite just signing him the previous summer. Doherty is currently Conte’s first-choice, but he, too, has not been consistent enough to earn the position.

Spurs will need to beat the pack and step ahead in the queue to win the on-loan Forest defender’s contract in the summer, with the Gunners also interested. We spent the whole winter transfer window sitting back and acting just on deadline day, but that must be avoided at the conclusion of the season if we intend to conduct major business in the summer transfer window.
