Winger left Anfield for Etihad Stadium

Raheem Sterling admits his record-breaking move from Liverpool to Manchester City has left a bad taste in his mouth.

The former red completed a prolonged, record-breaking £49m move to Manchester City last week amid reports his relationship with Kop chief Brendan Rogers had completely broken down.

After a series of high-profile fall outs which included Sterling turning down a £100,000 a week deal with the Anfield club and the infamous BBC interview in which Sterling admitted turning down the contract, it would be fair to say there will be many few Kopites whom are not glad to see the back of the England attacker.

It would appear that the footballing world is equally as bitter, Sterling was booed by a minority of Aussie football fans during his new sides pre-season friendly win against Melbourne City.

Sterling Apology

Speaking after, Sterling said: “I’m a bit disappointed with how it was left. That was the main problem I had with the situation is how I left it with Liverpool.”

While Sterling proclaims to be on good terms with everyone at Anfield, a recent statement from Steven Gerard would suggest that this is not the case. As the bitter row over Sterling’s future ensued, Gerrard said: “I’m not happy with all that carry-on and I don’t think there’s any need for it.”

After such an unceremonious few months, the spotlight is unlikely to avoid Sterling whom now carries the high expectations of the most expensive English player in football history.

However, Sterling would appear un-phased by the pressure as he states: “As a Premier League footballer you are always going to have pressure, but you’ve just got to deal with that and take it in your stride.

“I’ve got my own personal ambitions in terms of goals and assists, but the main thing is do well for this club and get trophies.I think I have made the right decision to come here.”

Sterling touched down in Australia on Friday morning and has trained with his new teammates. He is expected to make his debut in Melbourne on Tuesday when Manuel Pellegrini’s side face Roma in the International Champions Cup.
