Sampdoria have officially signed Zenit Saint Petersburg winger Emiliano Rigoni on loan for the remainder of the season.
Rigoni arrives on a season-long loan with €10 million obligation to buy, which will turn to an option to buy if he does not play a certain number of games.
“The president Massimo Ferrero and the UC Sampdoria communicate that they have temporarily acquired with rights and/or option rights to the sports performances of the the player Emiliano Ariel Rigoni from Zenit Saint Petersburg“, a statement on Sampdoria’s official website read.
The 26-year-old spent the first half of last season at Atalanta, scoring three goals in 12 appearances, and has one cap for Argentina.
“I’m thrilled to be here and once again test myself in one of the most competitive leagues in the world,” stated the new Sampdoria No. 10.
“I can’t wait to get started and work hard. I’m going to do my bit to generate optimism and will try to help the team and the coach, who really wanted to bring me in. I know the fans are wonderful and that’s something I like because it reminds me of Argentine supporters. My target is to have a fantastic year, both for them and the club”, the 26-year-old added.
In the disappointing six months with Atalanta last year, Rigoni made 12 competitive appearances, whilst scoring three goals.
