Manchester United face the prospect of losing the Spanish duo of Juan Mata and Ander Herrera, if manager Louis Van Gaal keeps his job at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman is under mounting pressure with United, having gone on a six game winless run – with the Red Devils dropping out of the top four, following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Norwich City.

And now,  according to the Times, Mata and Herrera are considering their futures at Manchester United – and could depart the club in the transfer window next month, if the 64-year-old manager is still in his position.

Mata, aged 27, has been a mainstay in the set-up ever since signing in February 2014, though his compatriot, Herrera, has failed to live up to expectations ever since signing for £28m from Athletic Bilbao last summer.

Both players have been linked with a return to their homeland in the near future – as the two players  look to nail down a place in the Spain squad for the European Championship Finals in France.

Officials at United are pondering making moves for high-profile managers, Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, as well as the current assistant manager, Ryan Giggs, should Van Gaal vacate.
