AC Milan could reportedly reshuffle their midfield.

The Rossoneri have now entered the race for Croatian stalwart Ivan Rakitic.

It has been a difficult season thus far for AC Milan as they sit down in 13th place in the Serie A table after seven games with Stefano Pioli replacing Marco Giampaolo over the international break. In turn, their more immediate focus will be on getting on track on the pitch and climbing the standings as they eye a Champions League qualification spot this season.

However, speculation over their potential transfer work continues to be noted and there are suggestions that there could be changes in midfield.

According to Calciomercato, AC Milan are preparing to challenge Manchester United for Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic. The reports says Director Zvonimir Boban is eager to lure his compatriot away from Spain and contacts are said to have been made with his representatives.

Despite being heavily linked with a move during the summer transfer window, the Croatian midfielder remained at Barcelona, having reportedly refused to be used as a makeweight as the Catalans sought to build up funds for a possible bid for Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar.

This season however he has become an increasingly peripheral figure, and is once again on the radar of a number of European clubs as the January transfer window approaches. Given the Croat’s lack of playing time at the Nou Camp so far, he could be open to an exit to regain a prominent role elsewhere rather than remain down the pecking order with the Catalan giants.
