Everton defender Vitaliy Mykolenko reveals fear of Mohamed Salah ahead of Merseyside derby clash
Everton’s Vitaliy Mykolenko has opened up about his apprehension when facing Liverpool’s prolific winger, Mohamed Salah. Mykolenko confessed that Salah is the most daunting opponent he’s encountered, ahead of their upcoming clash in the Merseyside derby.
The Ukrainian also mentioned Bukayo Saka and Bernardo Silva but told Sky Sports about Salah:
“He is going with the ball really fast and he’s going straight at you. It is scary for me and other defenders. You can improve yourself and you can show you can play on this level, this top level.”
The Ukrainian defender, who has faced Salah four times, described the Egyptian’s prowess on the pitch as unparalleled.
Salah’s ability to find the net consistently, evidenced by his 15 Premier League goals this season and a total of 19 across all competitions, underscores his threat to opposing teams.
Their last encounter in October saw Salah netting twice, including a penalty, ultimately securing victory for Liverpool. Despite Mykolenko’s efforts, he found himself on the losing side three times out of four, with only one match ending in a draw.
Salah’s recent return from injury has further heightened anticipation for their next showdown, scheduled for March 17 at Goodison Park.
However, uncertainty looms over Salah’s participation in the upcoming Carabao Cup final against Chelsea, following his absence in Liverpool’s recent victory over Luton Town.
Having been sidelined for over a month due to a muscle injury sustained during the Africa Cup of Nations, Salah’s fitness remains a focal point for both Liverpool and their rivals.
As the season progresses, Mykolenko and Everton face the daunting task of containing Salah’s formidable threat on the field.
