The striker hasn’t replicated his form of last season

Former Chelsea player and assistant manager Ray Wilkins has hit out at Diego Costa and claims Jose Mourinho should drop the Spaniard.

In what has been a poor campaign for Chelsea on and off the pitch, Costa has only scored three goals in all competitions against West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa in the Premier League and Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the Champions League.

The 27-year old’s last goal came in the 2-0 home win over Villa last month, which means the centre forward hasn’t netted in seven-and-a-half hours of football.

‘He’s not a goal threat at the moment’

Wilkins was specifically critical of Costa’s performance against Dynamo Kiev and believes the Blues’ boss Mourinho has better options available; one of those options being Loic Remy.

When speaking to talkSPORT, Wilkins said: “Jose got the hump with him against Kiev because there was a ball played in from the right side and he didn’t get across the near post. He went berserk at him because he is not working hard enough to get into scoring positions.”

He also added: “He’s not a goal threat at the moment, I think it’s time to leave him out and bring Remy in; Remy will always score a goal.”
