These comments came from an unlikely source

Radamel Falcao’s grandmother has criticised Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal over their treatment of the striker.

The Colombian international centre forward is currently spending his second season-long loan in the Premier League from Ligue 1 side Monaco.

The 29-year old had a poor campaign in his first loan spell in England at Manchester United, where he scored just four goals in 29 appearances.

Falcao is now spending this term with Chelsea, but his first team appearances for the club have been limited.

This has prompted his grandmother to deliver some stern words to the United manager Louis van Gaal and the Blues’ boss Jose Mourinho.

‘You have to show confidence in him’

When speaking to El Universal, Dona Denis King Garcia said: “I do not understand what happened, after the injury he suffered last year before the World Cup he has tried to return and has played some good matches; but I also think the coaches he has worked with have not been explicit with him.”

She also added: “You have to show confidence in him because that is the only way he can return to what he used to be [before his injury]. At first he was used a lot, but after that he has been used very little.

In those 10 or 15 minutes he’s being given he can’t do anything and so it is very difficult for him, you have to give him more time to do what he does best.”
