A Vietnam footballer has been suspended by their football’s federation for a record 28-games afer he broke an opponents leg with a dangerous tackle.

Tran Dinh Dong, a 26-year-old who plays in the Vietnam league, made the tackle on Nguyen Anh Hung during their match, and the latter is now expected to miss up to a year’s worth of action due to his serious injury.

Due to the tackle, Dong will also have to pay a fine of roughly ÂŁ500 and also has been told to pay for all the medical costs for Hung’s treatment throughout his recovery.

The 28-game ban means the player won’t play again this year, but according to the club’s manager, they will try and appeal the ban.

Speaking to their local media, Dong’s manager said this: “I will fine him if he does wrong. I think the VFF (Vietnam Football Federation) issued the fine under pressure from public opinion, not based on reality.

“We will appeal because his absence would strongly affect our name and V-League results.”

The VFF (Vietnam Football Federation) said in a statement: “The punishment is meant to be a warning to players throughout the nation, where violent behaviour on the field has gradually become more popular.”
