Former Arsenal striker John Hartson gave his predictions for the Premier League, stating that Liverpool will give reigning champs Manchester City a run for their money. Hartson played for Arsenal from 1995-1997.
When asked about who’ll push City the most this season, the Welshman said, “Liverpool. There’s a feel-good factor back at Liverpool. With the signing of Shaqiri to slot in with [Mohamed] Salah, [Roberto] Firmino and [Sadio] Mane – Salah’s got his new contract too. [Dejan] Lovren had a good World Cup, there’s a good feel [about Liverpool]. They feel as if they’re back and they won’t want to slip out of those Champions League places.
They’ll want to push Man City closely. We saw the way they dismantled Man City in the Champions League, they’ll feel they can go toe-to-toe with them. Maybe they need a bit more consistency to do it over 38 games. ”
Hartson added, “I could also say the same about Chelsea if they kept hold of their players and added. [Jose] Mourinho is not going to be happy finishing second. I can see Man City winning the title again, it’s down to the other teams to prevent them from getting the start they did last year.”
