Former Chelsea Midfielder Set To Sign For Middlesbrough

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel is on the verge of returning to English football as he has agreed on personal terms with Championship outfit Middlesbrough.

The 31 year old is expected to join the Teessiders on a short term deal till the end of the season. The midfielder has been without a club after departing from Tianjin Teda this month and has been on the lookout for a new club preferably in England.

Mikel’s wife and two daughters live in London and should this deal go ahead the Nigerian international would be able to keep a close distance with his family. Mikel had a fruitful chat with Boro manager Tony Pulis a few ago and he is now set to put pen to paper on a new contract.

Pulis’ side is doing quite good in the second tier this term and has maintained their form as they are currently in fifth place. Pulis has been in the transfer market searching players suiting his style and Mikel could definitely be an upgrade.

The midfielder had a decorated Chelsea career which also boasts of one Premier League title, two Champions Leagues, one Europa League and three FA Cups.
