Roma coach Garcia is keen to bring in another centre-back before the start of the season.
Last year’s runners up have already sealed the deals for Ashley Cole and Urby Emmanuelson this summer, along with veteran midfielder Seydou Keita and forward Juan Iturbe.
The Giallorossi have also been heavily linked with Manchester City’s Matija Nastasic and Serie A defender Davide Astori, and coach Garcia made his feelings clear that the club needed another defender if they are to push once again for the title next season.
After his side’s friendly win over Liverpool, he told reporters: “We all know that we need another central defender.
“This is why I have brought many youngsters along to see if more than one can help us in the season.
“[Sporting director Walter] Sabatini is working on this and we need to find the right man to be even stronger this season.
“We will see later, but there is no rush to find this central defender, but if there is an exciting opportunity then we will take it.”
The need for another centre-back could lay the grounds for further speculation that current Roma defender Mehdi Benatia could be on his way out, with Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly interested.
