Gareth Bale: “La Liga is better than the Premier League”

Gareth Bale believes that the Barclays Premier League has lost its crown as the best League in the world, and that the Spanish La Liga is now the most attractive League to play in.

It is now almost a year that has passed since Bale completed his ÂŁ85 million fee from Tottenham Hotspur, with Bale signing a six year deal at the Bernabeu, in what was one of the longest running saga’s in transfer history.

The recently crowned European Champions have also announced the ÂŁ63 million signing of Colombian midfielder James Rodriguez, as well as German World Cup winning central midfielder Toni Kroos.

And Bale firmly believes that Spain is superior to the English Premier League, with the Welshman stating that top players prefer to play there.

Bale’s one sided theory could in fact be correct in some way, following FC Barcelona’s ÂŁ75 million signing of Luis Suarez from Liverpool earlier this month.

Speaking on Madrid’s tour of the United States, the former Tottenham man stated his reasons behind his comments.

“The Spanish League is the most exciting,” Bale said.

“The world’s top players play there. Barcelona or Real Madrid are always there near the Champions League final or winning it.

“The Premier League is a great league but we are attracting the best players to La Liga. It is great to be involved in it.”

Bale also hailed the signing of James Rodriguez, with Real luring the Colombian to the Spanish capital from French Ligue 1 side Monaco for a large fee.

This transfer of Rodriguez means that Bale has several amounts of competition at Madrid, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Rodriguez, Angel Di Maria, Isco, Kroos and Karim Benzema all looking for places in the first team.

“James is a great signing,” Bale said.

“He has shown what quality he has in the World Cup and hopefully he can produce for Real Madrid what he did for Colombia.

“It’s for the manager to decide what system we play and who plays.

“You need to perform well to keep your place. Everyone knows that.”

Bale scored 15 goals in his debut La Liga campaign, from 27 Liga appearances. He also helped Madrid win the Domestic Kings Cup, scoring the winner in that fixture against Barcelona in Valencia, and the Champions League triumph over Atletico Madrid in Lisbon.
