Godin won’t be joining Chelsea

Diego Godin will not be following any of his Atletico Madrid teammates to Chelsea after expressing his continued commitment to the club. Several of the La Liga side’s players – namely Diego Costa, Filipe Luis and Tiago – are expected to quit the club and move to Stamford Bridge this summer, while Courtois will also be returning to Chelsea after three years in Spain.

The Blues have also recently declared an interest in defender Godin but Spanish newspaper AS is reporting that the 28-year old has already told Madrid that he doesn’t plan on leaving. The Uruguayan signed a new deal last November, which keeps him in La Liga until summer 2018, but Atletico could be set to offer him a big pay-rise after a great season for the club.

Godin played a key role in Atletico’s La Liga victory and also in their Champions League run to the final last season and he is viewed as one of their most important players.
