Good news for Liverpool in the race to sign Barcelona’s Martin Montoya

Montoya, who was subject of an offer from the Reds during the January transfer window, has been locked in negotiations with Barca over an extension to his current deal.

And amid talk that Liverpool will make a new bid to land him at the end of the season, Montoya is believed to have snubbed the Catalan club’s latest attempts to sign him up for the future.

According to AS, the row over the defender’s future is down to his recent lack of first-team chances, with Montoya keen to become a regular – or he will consider moving on.

Liverpool flew chief executive Ian Ayre to Spain before Christmas to try and tempt the player into moving to Anfield, and while a deal was not agreed then, a summer switch is looking increasingly likely.
