Tottenham eyeing Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon

Spurs have been keeping tabs on goalkeeper Simon, as they view him as a potential long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris between the sticks

The Frenchman is Spurs’ club captain and has been first choice for over a decade. Lloris just signed a new deal, although he turned 35 in December, and the plan at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is for him to go through a transition period while he remains at the club.

Lloris’ recent performances have been questioned after he conceded goals against Wolves and Manchester City after failing to keep possession of the ball.

Nonetheless, Antonio Conte, who enjoys working with Lloris, sees his leadership in the dressing room as critical.

After nearly twelve years at Tottenham, the 35-year-old was overjoyed to extend his contract.

Tottenham, on the other hand, looks to be concerned with having a qualified successor in mind for when the time comes to replace their No. 1.

Unai Simon’s outstanding performances for club and country have drawn the attention of London, and at only 24 years old, he already has over 100 LaLiga Santander outings to his record – the 100th will come at the Camp Nou on Sunday – as well as 20 Spain caps.

Simon is a European under-21 and under-19 champion, as well as an Olympic silver medalist. Now firmly established as Luis Enrique’s No. 1 in Spain’s senior team, he played in the Euro 2020 semi-finals and the 2021 Nations League final.
