The Houston Dynamo have acquired the rights to defender David Horst from the Portland Timbers in exchange for a 4th round pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, it was announced today. Per club and league policy, terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Horst, 28, has appeared in 42 games in six seasons in Major League Soccer. Horst made 2 appearances (both starts) for the Timbers in 2013 in an injury-shortened season. He made 21 appearances (20 starts) and scored a goal for Portland in 2012.

The 6-foot-4 defender was selected in the first round of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake. The Pine Grove, Pa. native spent time on loan in 2009 and 2010 with the Austin Aztex (USL First Division) and Puerto Rico Islanders (USSF Division 2), respectively. Horst was selected by the Timbers in the 2010 MLS Expansion Draft.
