William Carvalho has revealed that he had no intentions of leaving Sporting Lisbon this Summer, despite Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all wanting to sign the Portuguese midfielder.

The 22-year-old was heavily linked with a move to England throughout the Summer transfer window, with the trio all keen on signing the holding-midfielder, however, none of them were keen to meet his ÂŁ37million release clause.

Despite not willing to meet the clause in his contract, it’s reported that Arsenal made a couple of offers for the midfielder, including a player-swap deal involving Joel Campbell, but all offers were rejected by the Portuguese club.

With speculation high that Arsenal will renew their interest in January, Carvalho has revealed that he is happy in Portugal and has no plans on leaving anytime soon.

He said: “Nobody ever heard me say I wanted to leave the Sporting or was dissatisfied. I’ve always been satisfied at Sporting.

“As things have not gone well me start this championship, people think it is because I’m upset, but they could not be more wrong.

“I want to always be right, but that’s football, sometimes things do not go on the pitch as we wish.

“I feel I can give more and can do better than last season. I know I have not been at the highest level, but eventually things will go well and I hope it will be in the next game.”
