Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made a shocking accusation regarding the transfer of Manchester United striker, Danny Welbeck, by claiming that if he was in the country, he WOULDN’T have signed the Englishman.

The Frenchman was in Rome during transfer deadline day taking part in a charity event, and with just hours left, the news broke that his side had agreed a deal for Welbeck from United, which would be around £16million for a permanent deal.

Despite going on to praise the signing of Welbeck and admitting that he will add a lot to his side, Wenger has also admitted that he wouldn’t have signed Welbeck if he was in the country.

‘If I had not been away on deadline day, Welbeck would not have signed. That’s the truth,’ said Wenger.

‘I will tell you the story one day.’

From these quotes, it’s clear that Ivan Gazidis took control of the striker hunt, and decided to sign Welbeck once he became available.
