Jack Wilshere is currently in talks with Arsenal over a new contract at the club.
The young midfielder, who has just come back from a 17-month injury lay-off, is expected to be offered a new contract worth a lot more money as Arsene Wenger is preparing him to be the future captain of Arsenal FC.
Reports understand that talks between the club and Wilshere have already started as they look set to offer him an increase on his current £50k-a-week contract.
Despite still having two-and-a-half years left on his current contract, the Arsenal hierarchy are eager to extend it and so they don’t face another contract issue down the line. Arsenal lost Robin Van Persie in the summer because his contract was running into it’s last year and they are now having the same problem with Theo Walcott.
New summer signing, Lukas Podolski, is currently the highest paid Arsenal player, earning 90k-a-week and it is understood that Jack will be offered around the same amount.
If a new contract wasn’t good enough for Wilshere, the manager, Arsene Wenger, has made it clear that he wants Jack to be the future captain of Arsenal.
Current captain, Thomas Vermaelen, is in no danger of losing the captaincy in the near future, but Wenger has made it clear that in a couple of years, Wilshere will be the captain of the club.
Arsene Wenger has been speaking about Jack and the current contract situation.
“He [Wilshere] has always been very committed to this club and I hope he will show that,” Wenger said.
“There is only one way to show that and it is to commit your long-term future to the club.”
