Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has praised the club’s fans for their continous support, even during away games.

The Gunners are known to have one of the best travelling set of fans as they sell out all their allocated seats week in, week out, for away matches and Wilshere wants them to know that their efforts do not go unnoticed.

Despite losing 6-3 to title rivals Manchester City on Saturday, the Arsenal end was rocking the whole match and Wilshere has admitted that the players want to make it up to them, starting with a victory on Monday night, against Chelsea.

“They’ve been great over the start of the season even though we lost the first game at home,” Wilshere told Arsenal Player. “The away fans are brilliant. We have to apologise to them, they spent their money to come up [to Manchester] and we didn’t perform to the level they expect.

“We’ll go again and we’ll see them on Monday.”

The English midfielder then went on to talk about the City drubbing and he admits that five out of the six goals should have been prevented.

“Most of the goals were individual mistakes,” he said. “I know I certainly am beating myself up about it and the other players I know will be disappointed. We’ll learn from that individually and collectively.

“I think we were too stretched and the space between the defence and the midfield was too much. They [Man City] are good at winning the ball back and with the power they’ve got with Yaya Toure and [Samir] Nasri they attack well, and they showed that.

“We have to tighten up a little bit.”
