Manchester City midfielder James Milner has dropped a hint that he could depart the Etihad Stadium outfit, in favour of a move to Liverpool in the summer.

The 29-year-old has impressed for City this season, though his performances may not be enough to convince Manuel Pellegrini to offer the England international a new deal at the club.

Liverpool have been linked with the player, with the Reds in need of a central-midfielder for next season, with club stalwart Steven Gerrard heading to the US to link up with LA Galaxy in Major league Soccer.

And Milner, who recent won City’s in-house player of the month award, has revealed that he would prerfer to play a more central role in the spine of the team.

Speakibg after picking up his award, he was asked which position he prefers.

“Attacking central midfielder because with my engine, I can get forward and back.

“When you play wide sometimes, you have to be disciplined and wait for the ball to come to you and hold your shape for the team, whereas in the middle, if things aren’t going the way of the team, you can get involved and take the game by the scruff of the neck.

“In the middle you get more involved in the game and can change the game.”
