Jan Vertonghen insists Spurs will bounce back

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen insists that the club will bounce back from their 6-0 thrashing against Manchester City on Sunday, by defeating Manchester United at White Hart Lane this weekend.

The Belgium international had a horror-show on Sunday, much like the rest of the Spurs players, as they were on the other end of a 6-0 defeat to City, but the centre-back is confident that they can put things right this weekend against David Moyes’ men.

However, it’s not the easiest of games for Spurs as they haven’t beaten United at home since 2001, but the Belgium is feeling confident.

‘It is a good thing we play Manchester United next. We are at home and we have the support of our crowd. I am sure we can win that game,’ he said.

‘Of course we didn’t play well against City but we are better than that. We can solve the problem. We will talk and bounce back [against United] on Sunday.’

Vertonghen then revealed his disappointment at Sunday’s humiliation.

‘Manchester City score a lot of goals at home but we gave three or four of them away too easily,’ he added.

‘That is our own fault. They are a very strong team but I would love to play this game again next week because we are better than this. Everybody was fit. We have had the internationals but we play European games as well so that was not a problem.

‘We are very disappointed. We felt we could do something here. We need to talk with the group but everybody is motivated for the rest of the games.’
