Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe believes Andre Villas-Boas is in the wrong for making Emmanuel Adebayor train with the reserves.

The Togo international has fallen down the pecking order at White Hart Lane, especially after the arrival of Roberto Soldado and the man who is sitting on ÂŁ100k-a-week, has now been told that he cannot train with the first-team.

Adebayor was close to securing a move away from North London this summer, but all potential deals fell through because of his wage demands.

His team-mate, Defoe, who is also running short on game-time, believes Boas is making a mistake by forcing him to train with the reserve team.

He said: ‘I don’t think it helps the team because someone like Manu is a great player and played for some of the top clubs in the world.

‘He is someone that we’re going to need, we’re going to need his goals and what he can bring to the team. He is keeping himself fit.

‘He is a happy guy and loves his football. Hopefully he will be back soon with the team.’
