John Terry: ‘We will miss Lampard and Cole’

Chelsea legend John Terry believes the club have enough strength in depth to be competitive for next season, but he still feels the club will miss both Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole.

The three veterans were playing at Stamford Bridge on rolling 12-month contracts, and after Terry was rewarded a new one, the news broke that both Lampard and Cole would not be offered a new deal and would be leaving the club after years of service.

Cole has now joined Italian side AS Roma, whilst Lampard is still looking for a new club, with MLS his favoured destination.

Jose Mourinho has been busy in the transfer window already, signing Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa and close to securing Filipe Luis, and the signings make Terry believe next season will be a good one for the club.

“We should be very competitive. We were close last year but unlucky at times.

“With the signings we have made and a couple of younger players who will surprise a few people, this should be a very good year.

“We want to win trophies — that is always the aim from the outset.”

However, the captain knows that Cole and Lampard will leave a gap in the camp.

“They will be missed, although I’m sure the fans will never forget them.”
