Chile head-coach has been linked with Chelsea
Chelsea Football Club could see their managerial shortlist shortened by one with Chile head-coach Jorge Sampaoli becoming new favourite to take over at AS Roma.
The Chile manager has publicly admitted that he’d like to take a step into club management, and after his success with the Chilean national team, he does come with some pedigree.
Sampaoli made the shortlist for UEFA‘s Coach of the Year and he was a surprise name on Roman Abramovich‘s shortlist to replace Jose Mourinho, who was sacked earlier this season.
Sampaoli Set for AS Roma
However, the 55-year-old is now favourite to take over from Rudi Garcia at Serie A side Roma, with formal negotiations believed to be already underway.
According to reports, Roma are ready to fork out £4.3million compensation to get Sampaoli from the Chile role.
As for Chelsea, it now looks like most of their attention will focus on Pep Guardiola and Diego Simeone.
