Jose Mourinho feels Diogo Dalot could be the solution to Manchester United’s full back problem for the next decade.
The Portuguese had an impressive debut against Young Boys in the Champions League as United kick started their European campaign with an emphatic 3-0 win over the Switzerland outfit.
Paul Pogba scored a brace and Anthony Martial added a third as the Red Devils registered their third away victory in all competitions this season.
Mourinho previously confirmed Antonio Valencia unavailability as the United captain preferred not to trouble his knee on this artificial turf. Dalot earlier appeared for the United U23s as he was recovering from a knee injury since his arrival from Porto in the summer. The 19 year old is touted to be one of the best right backs in the near future and is tipped to be Valencia’s successor in coming days.
Mourinho heaps praise on the youngster. “It [Dalot performance] was a very good, solid performance after knee surgery. Everyone can see the potential and everyone could see he’s a 19-year-old player who has more than 10 years to play for Manchester United.
“I want to be also nice to Luke [Shaw], because both played at the same level. They played very well. Our danger came from both. They had fantastic movement, they had depth, they had crosses, assists and were involved in the most dangerous actions. They defended well, too.
“We knew we had to win this match, we knew it was very important for us to go into the next three matches with Valencia and Juventus twice with these three points and we did that.”
