Mourinho eyes defensive reinforcement as Roma targets Chalobah in January transfer raid

Jose Mourinho is planning a January transfer raid to improve Roma’s defensive group, with his sights set firmly on Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah.

Long-term injuries to important defenders Chris Smalling and Marash Kumbulla have worsened Roma’s defensive issues, putting Mourinho in desperate need of reinforcements.

According to sources, Roma has formally approached Chelsea, suggesting a strong desire to sign the 24-year-old center-back during the upcoming winter transfer window.

Chalobah has yet to play for Chelsea this season after sustaining a thigh injury in preseason. Due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) limits, the Blues are presumably willing to permit Chalobah’s exit in January.

Crystal Palace and Bayern Munich have also surfaced as potential suitors for Chalobah, raising the level of anticipation surrounding his potential move.

With Roma’s recent 2-0 loss to Bologna displaying the team’s defensive weaknesses, Mourinho’s pursuit of Chalobah can be seen as a calculated move to strengthen up the team’s backline.

While Chelsea provided an update on Chalobah’s continued recovery, no firm timetable for his return to action has been determined.

As the January transfer window approaches, all eyes are on Mourinho’s masterstroke in getting Chalobah’s services to improve Roma’s defensive qualities and traverse the Serie A season’s hurdles.
