Conor Gallagher sacrifice paves way for Chelsea’s pursuit of prolific striker Ivan Toney
Chelsea is reportedly considering moving fan favourite Conor Gallagher this winter for a massive £50 million. The sale would provide Chelsea the financial power to compete with Arsenal for Brentford’s famous striker, Ivan Toney, who is valued at £60 million.
Chelsea is under pressure to recoup finances for additional signings in the upcoming transfer window after spending over £1.2 billion on deals under the ownership of Clearlake Capital Group.
Despite his status as a homegrown talent and current midfield secure under manager Mauricio Pochettino, Gallagher’s likely exit might be a necessary sacrifice for the club’s long-term goals.
The 21-year-old Englishman, who avoided summer moves to West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur, has established himself as a crucial player for Chelsea, captaining the club in eight league games and contributing four assists.
However, Profit and Sustainability laws force Chelsea to consider their alternatives, and Gallagher’s departure might pave the door for the biggest signing.
Toney, a seasoned Premier League performer, scored 20 goals last season, driving Brentford to a solid ninth-place finish.
Despite the projected £60 million price tag and Toney’s claimed preference for Arsenal, Chelsea is preparing for a courageous struggle for the striker, trying to resurrect their title hopes and close the 17-point gap to league leaders.
